PSHE lessons that would be useful for all of us - Social relationships and connections which impact well being
Share
As I planned our latest PSHE lesson and tutor time resource, it got me thinking as to how useful some PSHE lessons would be for all of us to receive. This latest lesson covered an aspect which is considered a lot under the 2026 RSHE guidance and that is how to positively impact our mental health and well being but with a particular focus on how our relationships can do this.
Part of the lesson looks at micro-connections. These micro-connections are the short, friendly moments, like a quick smile, a cheerful "hello," or a compliment, often with someone we don't know well, that makes both people feel happy and included. In a world where we are often looking down at our phones and rushing around with busy lives they are something we may do less. The lesson helps young people to be aware of the positive impact of micro-connections, they cause the brains of those involved to release the happy hormones dopamine and oxytocin giving us that warm feeling inside.
As teachers and parents, these micro-connections which we are discussing in PSHE are something which we can model ourselves, by the 'good morning' to the pupil we don't know who we pass in the corridor or the 'have a nice day' comment to the shop keeper as we are out with our child. As I am typing, my window cleaner knocked on my door to give me an ice cream he had been given by the previous customer, the little gesture made me smile.
If you would like the lesson mentioned, it can be purchased individually or as part of our complete PSHE Secondary package which gives you access to all of our resources from only £39.99.
